Late on the night of March 9, 2025, U.S. Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House after a confrontation. The suspect, identified as Andrew Dawson from Indiana, had been reported as a “suicidal individual” by local authorities.
Secret Service agents located his vehicle near 17th and F Streets NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. When they approached, Dawson displayed a firearm, prompting agents to open fire. He was taken to the hospital, while no Secret Service personnel were harmed.
At the time, President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division has launched an investigation into the incident.
This shooting is part of a history of security incidents near the White House, including a 2016 case where Secret Service agents shot a man who approached a security checkpoint while armed.
